Hailey Conrad will walk us through the history of environmental exploitation in Ortley Beach and the inspiring success of the 1960s environmental movement. Then she will contextualize present environmental challenges facing Ortley Beach, and talk about what she views as the future of the town from a conservationist perspective.

Conrad is an Ortley Beach native and longtime Naturalist at Island Beach State Park. Growing up in Ortley Beach and learning about local conservation issues inspired her to pursue a career in marine conservation. She graduated from the Rutgers University Honors College last spring with a B.S. in Marine Science and Ecology, Evolution, and Natural Resources. She currently attends graduate school at Virginia Tech in the Fish and Wildlife Conservation program, studying the bioenergetics and reproductive physiology of summer flounder.
