In October 2012, Hurricane Sandy changed Ortley Beach forever. In our town— “Ground Zero” for the storm’s wrath—only 60 of our 2,600 homes escaped damage. Families in our one-square-mile barrier island town were displaced, business operations were put on hold, and our community center was destroyed.
Since then, more families live in town year-round after rebuilding what had been their second home. Longtime businesses have returned and new businesses are choosing to plant roots in our community. Friends of Ortley Beach, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was formed in 2016 to unite the residents, business owners, and vacationers who are committed to helping this community grow and thrive.
Our organization is dedicated to enhancing, protecting, and sustaining the natural beauty and resources of the barrier island community for future generations. To do this, Friends of Ortley Beach develops cultural activities, educational programs, and neighborhood events that foster community engagement and spur the social and economic vitality of our town—and beyond.
